BBC Breakfast. Losing edge -faint whiff of regional TV http://t.co/LU3KBemk via @hsmediatraining
Is it just me or is BBC Breakfast losing its mojo? Alongside the difficulties of getting national guests on the sofa, it is resorting to home grown Manchester pundits. As I have said before I have nothing against Manchester but the calibre of comment and insight from a regional spokeperson is the not the same as a national perspective. It is already beginning to show. Items are being run too long and the level of interview is going down market. Not the fault of Bill and Susannah but as every interviewer worth their salt knows -you are only as good as your interviewee!
When This Morning came from the Albert Dock it has a rawness that appealed to the middle class aspirational Daily Mail reader. It worked. The move to London meant it lost some of that but gained in other ways. But BBC Breakfast appeals to a different constituency and too many soft items and interviews will lose a lot of their early morning audience. Where they go is difficult to see – not Daybreak that’s for sure so maybe Five Live and Radio 4 will be the gainers.
If I were the Exec Producer of Breakfast I think I might be looking for a job -back in London!
Another vain boastful woman fulfilling all stereotypes beloved of the Daily Mail.
I expect she now has an agent and is looking for work as a TV Presenter.

Having spent years in the regions for BBC and ITV, I know from experience how hard it is to get top class guests out of London. How on earth do the BBC Breakfast team think they will manage without a huge travel budget for guests? If there is an outcry at the low calibre of live comment, presumably they will be forced to invent a London “studio” with endless “down the line” interviews or bring in a London presenter. Step forward Ms Williams and Mr Hollins? Much as I loved working in Manchester in the 90s, the whole move in news reporting terms was ill conceived. It was political, orchestrated by the last lot. Really surprised that MPs who love seeing themselves on TV ever signed up for it but perhaps they scented a whole new source of expenses claims !

Oh dear both presenters getting a divorce. Hope they are not fighting over the lovely Shelina Permalloo!!
