MI6 & Uncle ‘C’ & the Silly Season
It is official… It’s the start of the Silly Season! You can tell when wonderful stories like the new head of MI6, Sir John Sawyers is revealed as wearing Speedo swimming trunks care of Facebook and his poor wife, who is obviously playing catch up with the implications of her hubby’s new role in this world. You can also tell it’s Silly Season when David Miliband, our Foreign Secretary, in case you need reminding, attempts to act like an elder statesman and add some gravitas to the debate of whether those poor family happy snaps should have been on line or not on line. I love the fact his nephews are already calling him Uncle ‘C’ – C being head of SIS’s call sign…Catch up all you non James Bond fans..
Even the Lib Dems sensed there was some PR kill to be made on what would have been a long boring Sunday watching a long, dare we utter it, boring Wimbledon final tennis match with the standard sabre rattling headline grabber – let’s have an inquiry. Yawn….Or even better their foreign affairs spokesman who ernestly believes this ‘kind of exposure borders on the reckless’ – PUhlease – the guy was only wearing speedos..!!
